Southern Rock has coursed through BJ’s veins ever since he was a child.  His love of music and talent caught the attention of his elementary school music teacher Woody Cowan in 3rd grade, so much so, that Woody would pull BJ out of class regularly to teach him chords and harmonies on the guitar.  That missing class time didn’t help BJ’s GPA average but it did set a fire in him to play music for a living.

BJ started his first band in 6th grade with a few friends, and even though they never made it beyond the middle school talent contests, the experience was like pouring gasoline on his fire to play music.  He knew he could never turn back and this would be his way of life, no exceptions.

His newly developed love of music in Middle School captured the attention of Rich Nelson of the band Bitter Sweet Alley.  Rich was so taken with BJ that he helped mentor him into the musician he is today.

Laterit was the sounds of Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke, Journey, and Guns & Roses that helped to formulate BJ’s musical style.  Many others influenced BJ, but as he reminisced and smiled, “I guess anything with an electric guitar in it [grabbed my attention].

When BJ and the boys aren’t out on a stage playing, you can find him high up in a deer stand waiting patiently for the opportunity to fill his freezer.

“It’s what I live for.” Bj eagerly shared, “I love both bow and rifle season and the opportunity God gives me to feed my family.”

Speaking of family, BJ loves spending time with his two preschool boys, either fishing together at the farm’s pond or riding out on the side-by-side to feed the cows.  But we are pretty sure they will be joining him in the forest on the hunt for a buck soon.

“It doesn’t matter to me what we’re doing,” Bj stressed, “I just want to be there for them.”
